They rocked our world way back when. They were sensational. Their lyrics reduced us to tears. They really spoke to us. It was as if they could read our minds. They represented the voice of the youth of the times. They were the bomb diggy. We thought the world couldn’t do without them…and then just like that…in a poof of smoke they disappeared.
We never heard of them again. How could amazing musicians like Christopher Williams, Al B Sure, Boys to Men, New Edition, Heavy D, Guy, Doug E. fresh, Salt & Pepa, Positive K, Pras, Mya, TQ, Wrecks n effect, Biz Markie, Coolio, MC Hammer, Patra, The boys, Bone thugs n harmony, Akon, Gwen Stephanie, just disappear?
And how could the world just forget them?
They were the life and soul of hip hop and R&B music back in the day.
They were all at par with the likes of Will Smith…so what happened?
Journey with me on a quest to find out where they are now and what they’ve been up to.
- Christopher Williams ; Anybody who was anybody back in the day knows that girls squealed and dropped like flies just at the mention of Christopher Williams. Not only did he have crazy killer looks but he had a sensational serenading voice to match. Christopher slayed us with songs like ‘I’m dreaming’ which was a soundtrack to the New Jack City starring Wesley Snipes. The song went to number one on the R&B billboard charts. His other hits include, ‘Every little thing you do’ I wanna be ur lover’ with Wrecks n effect, ‘Dance 4 me’ ‘Talk to myself’ and others. Christopher Williams is the nephew to the famous Ella Fitzgerald and a cousin to fellow R&B crooner Al B Sure. He was married to Stacey Dash with whom he has a son. He also dated Halle Berry in the 80’s and the 90’s. That’s one thing he has in common with Wesley Snipes other than both featuring in the New Jack City. After Halle Berry told interviewers that an abusive ex-boyfriend struck her so hard that she lost most of the hearing in her right ear, many people assumed that Williams was the unnamed ex-boyfriend. Williams defended himself to Eurweb, the entertainment news website, denying that he ever harmed Berry, and suggesting that Berry has been referring to actor Wesley Snipes. He said, “The stuff they wrote about me and Halle was totally false. It’s been said I busted her eardrum, and I’m tired of it. I never said it before but I’m so tired of people thinking I’m the guy who did it. Wesley busted her eardrum, not me.” Halle Berry is also on record denying that Williams ever hit her. So what happened to this handsome R& B crooner? Williams took a long break and returned in 2001 with Real Men Do. Real Men Do was barely a blip on the R&B radar but check out the beautiful “Violin” – he clearly still had some skills. Christopher is also a songwriter.
That album wrapped up Williams’ recording career – for now, anyway. Instead, he has focused on acting, starring in Chitlin Circuit plays like “The Clean Up Woman.” So the next time “Your Sugar is Too High To Box With God” comes to your town, look for Williams on the marquee.
Williams has been performing as an actor since early 2000s with roles in ‘Man is Hard to Find,’ ‘A House is Not a Home,’ ‘The Clean Up Woman,’ ‘Guilty Until Proven Innocent’ and ‘The Man of Her Dreams.’Christopher Williams is releasing new music! The Remedy, which drops September 2016, promises to be an exciting new chapter in his life. He also says he will return to the theatrical stage for the off Broadway musical “I Know I’m Somebody!.” He talks to the Tom Joyner Morning Show about his ex Stacey Dash and which side he’ll be on during the water gun fight on the 2016 Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage presented by Ford.
His thoughts on ex-wife Stacey Dash (they share a son together):
“I pray for her. We all have different journeys and when you deliver a message to people with vinegar it can’t have any good in it, even if it’s something that is your experiences. She likes to deliver a lot of vinegary and salty messages. I got out before the vinegar and salt,” he said.
All in a nutshell:
Christopher Williams and Al B Sure held down the pretty boy era of 80s R&B, and are still in the entertainment industry, albeit on a much more low-key level. Al B. Sure is hosting a radio show and Christopher Williams is acting in stage plays.
Christopher Williams is currently married to singer Natalie Macklin.*His son with Stacey Dash – Austin – is a budding model.
